CAPi Tool Surveys: Enhancing Data Collection and Analysis

CAPI tools have become a game-changer in the ever-changing field of data collection. With real-time data, improved accuracy, and offline accessibility, these tools completely transform the way surveys are carried out. Let’s investigate the realm of CAPI tool surveys and their applicability across different sectors.

CAPI: What is it?

A tablet or laptop is used by the interviewer to administer the questionnaire in a process known as computer-aided personal interviewing, or CAPI.

How CAPI works:
The interviewer follows a structured questionnaire loaded onto the electronic device.
As the interview progresses, the interviewer inputs the respondent’s answers directly into the system.
CAPI allows for logic checks, skip patterns, and validations during the interview, enhancing efficiency and data quality.

Household Interview Survey

A Household Interview Survey (HIS) is the process of collecting and analyzing data to help us understand the general situation and specific trip making characteristics of a sample households or all households in the population. During a household survey, field researchers investigate and record facts, observations and experiences from the sample households which are representative of all households’ socio-economic and trip making characteristics in the study area.

Stated Preference Survey

Stated Preference (SP) surveys consist of hypothetical situations presented to respondents who are then asked to make a choice based on the given attributes for each alternative, including choosing modes that the respondents may not have necessarily experienced in a real situation.

The SP survey shall follow the HIS. A subset of adult (age 16+) respondents participating in the diary portion of the HIS will be selected for participation in the SP survey.

The Household Interview Survey (HIS) and the Hotel/Visitor Survey will be formatted similarly, with the hotel room acting as the sampling unit. This survey’s main objective is to record the travel habits of both business and tourism visitors.
It’s important to remember, though, that the project’s original goal did not include tourist/hotel surveys. As a result, any work pertaining to the Tourist Survey’s application creation, management, data analysis, modeling, etc. will be viewed as extra scope.

Road side interview surveys

Roadside interview surveys are an essential tool for learning about traffic behavior and travel patterns, providing insightful information on a range of transportation-related topics. This is an explanation of the goal, methodology, and uses of these surveys.

PARKING SURVEYS

A parking survey is conducted to collect data on the availability, utilization, and characteristics of parking facilities in a specific area. This type of survey is essential for urban planning, traffic management, and parking facility
optimization. Here’s a methodology for conducting a parking survey.

Airport Surveys

Point of Fly (POF) data collection method for understanding and gathering information from individuals at airports or in their vicinity to gain insights into various aspects of their lives. This method can provide valuable data for understanding the impact of airports on local communities and informing urban planning decisions.

Purpose and Objectives:
Purpose: Gather socio-economic, demographic, and lifestyle data near airports.
Objectives: Understand the population’s characteristics, impact of airport operations, and inform planning decisions.
Sample Design:
Target Population: Residents near airports.
Sample Size: Determined statistically.
Sampling Method: Random, stratified, or cluster sampling to ensure representation.
Survey Instrument Design:
Questionnaire: Mix of closed and open-ended questions.
Cover socio-economic, demographic, and lifestyle factors.
Pre-test for clarity and comprehensibility.
Sampling Frame:
Source of sample: Census data, municipal records, voter lists, etc.
Represents target population accurately.
These components guide the collection of data effectively, providing insights into the population’s characteristics and their relationship with airport proximity..
